That is quite unfortunate. I do not expect the people will suffer the status quo for any great length of time. It had crossed my mind that the Ordinary was punishing me vicariously through the parish for my critiques of his views and fiats. I ordinarily would not ascribe to myself such importance — after all these are great men who rule over us — but I am all but certain that the Ordinary’s published policy on the Mass was a direct response to my accusations (which were, of course, true). I hope that the powers that be would not be so petty.
